Product Details
Sarcosine, also known as N-methylglycine, is an intermediate in glycine synthesis. Sarcosine is converted to glycine by the enzyme sarcosine dehydrogenase, and glycine can be converted to sarcosine by glycine-N-methyl transferase. Sarcosine is thought to work by increasing glycine concentrations in the brain, which causes increased NMDA receptor activation.
Our Sarcosine Assay Kit is a quantitative fluorometric assay that measures sarcosine concentrations in cell or tissue lysates. Sarcosine is converted by sarcosine oxidase into glycine plus formaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide. A fluorometric probe is oxidized by the hydrogen peroxide to generate fluorescent Resorufin, which correlates to the level of glycine in the sample. Glycine levels in an unknown sample are calculated based on a glycine standard curve.
